When you think of Arizona, you may not exactly think of a winter wonderland, but that doesn’t mean that holiday traditions don’t abound. The holiday season is packed with activities across the state that are distinctly Arizonian and get you into the spirit of the season even if you are a very long way from the North Pole. You can help get your Sierra Vista neighbors into a festive mood with luminaria lights (a favorite decoration for desert dwellers) around your home, and get your entire family ready for the reason by taking part in some of these Arizona holiday traditions.
Tree Lighting
Many cities boast their own special tree lighting ceremonies, and Sierra Vista is no exception. Sierra Vista’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will get you into the holiday spirit surrounded by friends and neighbors at Veterans Memorial Park. The ceremony, which reflects the unique character of our family-friendly city, takes place on December 3rd from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cookies and hot cocoa will be available to enjoy during the event.
Lights of the World
This Tucson holiday festival features six million LED lights features lanterns and light displays honoring famous global landmarks. You will also find Chinese acrobatics shows, musical performances, and carnival rides, all within the Kino Sports Complex. While you’re in Tucson, stop by the Winterhaven Festival of Lights, which is renowned as one of the best residential light displays in the country.
Yuletide Market & Holiday Bazaar
While the Mall at Sierra Vista offers a variety of traditional shopping destinations, you may want to find something more unique for everyone on your list. You’ll find it at the Yuletide Market & Holiday Bazaar at Ethel H. Berger Center in Sierra Vista. Here, local artisans and vendors gather to showcase a wide range of distinctive gifts including woodwork, holiday decorations, jewelry, and glassware. The Bazaar is open to shoppers this year on December 11th from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
