Sierra Vista is home to many great restaurants, outdoor attractions, local shops, and other amazing destinations to discover. However, if you’re feeling adventurous and ready to get away for the day, Bisbee is the perfect spot to visit for a glimpse at the history of Cochise County, a taste of the innovative farm to table food scene in the area, and a sampling of the local art scene. Bisbee is a small, historic mining town just 30 minutes away from Sierra Vista. Alternatively, you can take a longer route through Miracle Valley along Highway 92 for a closer look at the stunning mountain ranges of Northern Mexico. Whichever route you take, you can expect a full day of fun once you arrive.
Start With Breakfast on Erie Street
Erie Street is a living snapshot of history maintained by community volunteers. It is the main street of Lowell, which sits just outside of Bisbee. It is also home to Bisbee Breakfast Club, where you can fill up on classic American breakfast fare with a modern twist to fuel your big day. After breakfast, walk along the historic street to see restored historic buildings, classic cars, and storefronts from days gone by.
Explore the Galleries and Shops on Main Street
Step back into the 21st century by visiting Main Street for a look at the many eclectic art galleries and small shops that line this beautiful street. Public parking is available at several locations along Main Street, so you can park the car and head out on foot to find some great gifts and souvenirs, check out local art, and learn more about the area’s history.
Take a Walk (or Climb) Around Town
Although Main Street is where many shops, galleries, and restaurants are located in Bisbee, there’s a lot more to explore. If you’re feeling like getting some exercise, tour some of the famous stairs of Bisbee that let you traverse the steep hills and see some of the unique murals, homes, and hidden gems of the town.
Tour the Copper Queen Mine
Bisbee is a mining town, so why not discover the mine that started it all? You can tour the historic Copper Queen Mine seven days per week, and tours last about one hour. Be prepared with closed-toe walking shoes, as sandals and high heels are not allowed. You can buy tour tickets on site, but pre-booking online is recommended.
Enjoy a Late Lunch
After all that exploring, you’ll probably have worked up an appetite. You’ll have plenty of choices for a late lunch or early dinner. The 1902 Spirit Room offers a taste of haunted history at the Copper Queen Hotel, while Café Roka offers casual fine dining. Other great choices include the Double P Roadhouse, High Desert Market & Café, Bisbee Brewing Company, Los Tachos Restaurant, The Copper Pig, The Quarry, and Screaming Banshee Pizza.
