Get Ready for the 46th Annual Blessing of the Vines

If you’re a new resident of Sierra Vista or considering a move to Southern Arizona, you may be surprised to find that the region is home to numerous vineyards offering an array of locally produced vintages, including Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc. There’s truly something for all wine lovers to enjoy at the many small-batch vineyards that dot the hillsides of Sonoita, Elgin, and Willcox, just a short drive from Sierra Vista.

Sonoita Vineyards is one of the area’s best-known wineries, and they host regular festivals, live music shows, 5K races, comedy shows, and more. This April, wine enthusiasts throughout Southern Arizona can look forward to the 46th Annual Blessing of the Vines at Sonoita Vineyards on April 20th. This special event is a cherished annual tradition that takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering plenty of opportunities for tastings along with entertainment and fun for guests of all ages to enjoy.

What Is the Blessing of the Vines?

The Blessing of the Vines is led by Father Greg Adolf from St Andrews. During this gathering, Father Adolf and all our friends will bless the vines for the current growing year. This day-long festival will also include wine tastings with Sonoita Vineyards, The Elgin Winery, The Elgin Distillery, Lightning Ridge Cellars, and other local wineries in attendance. There will also be live music and food vendors, including Las Vigas, Better Birdie, and Craving Sweets and Treats. Craft and fine art vendors will be set up on-site as well, so be sure to support these local artisans!

Presale tickets that include six drink tickets and a souvenir glass are $25, or you can purchase tickets at the door for $30 on the day of the event. Non-drinker tickets are available for $10 for presale or at the door.

About Sonoita Vineyards

Sonoita Vineyards has been part of Southern Arizona’s wine scene since 1974. With vineyards sprawling over 30 acres at 5,000 feet and surrounded by rolling grasslands, this scenic winery is known for small batches with grapes that are exclusively produced in Southern Arizona. One unique aspect of growing in this challenging region is that insects and other pests are found in much lower concentrations than in California and the Pacific Northwest, making reduced-pesticide farming much more common. Sonoita Vineyards is also committed to sustainable practices with an ongoing commitment to recycling, rainwater harvesting, erosion control, and composting.

Living in Sierra Vista, the sprawling vineyards of Sonoita can be found right in your own backyard.
