Get Ready for El Tour de Zona

Southern Arizona is a favorite destination for bicyclists thanks to an abundance of amazing scenery, biking trails, and beautifully mild weather that makes biking possible year-round. El Tour de Zona is a celebration of Southern Arizona’s bike culture. This three-day cycling tour and festival offers a chance to explore Sierra Vista, Bisbee, and Tombstone while socializing with cyclists from around the country and enjoying an array of post-ride festivities.

What Is El Tour de Zona?

El Tour de Zona is a bicycle tour and festival that welcomes riders of all ages to participate in 1-3 days of amazing rides followed by great festivities at the basecamp, which will be located at Veterans Memorial Park. The event kicks off on March 21st with entertainment, food carts, and a beer garden, along with packet pickup for riders. Friday, March 22nd, will feature a 27-mile ride kicking off at 9 a.m., heading to Ramsey Canyon Preserve and back to Sierra Vista. Saturday, March 23rd, features a ride to Bisbee and back for a 63-mile loop that begins at 7:30 a.m. Finally, Sunday will feature a ride to Tombstone and back, clocking in at 36 miles and starting at 9 a.m. Registration is open for youth and adults, but riders should be prepared for lengthy rides with significant elevation changes. Friday’s ride has a climb of 1,282 feet. Saturday’s ride is the most rigorous, with a climb of 3,582 feet, and Sunday’s ride has a climb of 1,619 feet. All routes are also subject to change.

How do you participate?

Riders may participate in just one ride or register for all three. Registration closes on March 22nd, but prices increase after February 29th. Riders may choose to camp in tents or RVs at designated sites at Veterans Memorial Park, but registration is limited, and camping will have an additional fee. Tent campers should be prepared for chilly overnight lows dipping into the low 50s and high 40s. Daytime temperatures are usually about 70 degrees with full sun, so be prepared with appropriate sun protection. Riders will have free access to facilities at The Cove, including showers, locker rooms, bathrooms, and the wave pool, along with all other attractions at this indoor swim facility.

Along with the rides on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the festivities will include entertainment with live music at the Centennial Pavilion, a roundup of food trucks offering a variety of local fare, and a local craft beer garden.
